About The Event

For 15 years, the ACMA has been the e-commerce/catalog/direct industry's "little engine that does." Historically under-financed and under-supported, the ACMA has nevertheless accomplished numerous "wins" for this crucial industry. ACMA's President & Executive Director Hamilton Davison will detail what this vital organization has been working on of late, what its goals are for the membership, and why it's so important that you and/or your clients support it. Among others matters, Mr. Davison will address,

  • How the ACMA helped get crucial legislation to reform the US Postal Service passed earlier this year. But in ACMA's true no-nonsense approach, he will highlight what follow-up work needs to be done to keep the mail affordable and reliable for all commercial mailers.
  • ACMA’s work with the Senate Finance Committee has led to the association pushing for a hearing on Capitol Hill so Members of Congress can learn about the considerable financial hardships brought on by the vaguely-written Supreme Court Case, South Dakota v. Wayfair. The aim of a hearing is to spur new federal legislation to solve the Wayfair problem. The Wayfair ruling forced remote merchants to contend with over 12,000 separate taxing jurisdictions and authorities, each with varying rates, definitions as to what is taxable, differing exemption and filing requirements, and other unique complexities. Lately, this is being used by states to expand all manner of tax and regulatory burdens.
  • ACMA and its privacy committee are entrenched in containing a flurry of states following in the footsteps of the California Consumer Privacy Act. As with remote sales tax collection, ACMA's primary objective is to get federal legislation passed to alleviate the costs, pressures and potential customer backlash while clarifying the requirements all must accede to. While that work proceeds, ACMA and its members are targeting several states, which have been most active in following California's lead.

Speaker

Hamilton Davison, President & Executive Director at the American Catalog Mailers Association (ACMA)

Hamilton Davison is the President & Executive Director of the American Catalog Mailers Association (ACMA), a group he co-founded in 2007 when postage increased for catalog mailers. Since then, Davison’s actions with ACMA have led to far more moderate postage for catalogs. He works closely with the U.S. Postal Service and Postal Regulatory Commission to educate and inform officials about the catalog business model, incentives for greater mail volume, and the role of catalogs in shaping consumer perceptions of mail.
